Staying Ahead of the Curve – Growth in the E&S Market | Wasatch Ballroom | 9:45 AM - 10:15 AM | Premium volume in the non-admitted market has realized an unprecedented run up over the last several years. Growing over 30% from 2020 to 2021, MarshBerry estimates ~$100 billion of Excess & Surplus (E&S) premium will be placed in 2022. This is not only meaningful from a year-over-year growth perspective but as a percentage of the overall Property & Casualty marketplace. While recently experiencing a firm rate environment that has tended to “lift all boats”, one may expect the market cycle to reset back to its historically more prevalent soft rate environment. However, with changing market conditions, MarshBerry expects a bifurcated rate change environment for the foreseeable future. This session analyzes the growth curve of the overall E&S segment and takes a deep dive into various coverage types as we explain why a decoupling of the “rising tide lifts all boats” to a more “coverage specific” rate change environment may be occurring. Presented by Gerard Vecchio, MarshBerry Managing Director & Specialty Practice Co-Head |
Trends in the Specialty Sector: Death of the Independent MGA | Wasatch Ballroom | 10:15 AM - 11:15 AM | The fight for specialty distributors to stay on top of trends and remain relevant in an ever changing, dynamic marketplace is a constant struggle – especially for independently owned firms that lack robust infrastructure/systems, market clout and capital. The market experienced a massive roll-up of wholesale brokers over the last decade - to the point where few independent sizable brokers remain. Independents tend to find it challenging to attract and retain talent while growing operations at a rate that keeps pace with larger competitors. Is the historical consolidation of wholesale brokers reflective of the current consolidation environment being experienced by independent delegated authority firms? During this session, we explore the dynamic changes impacting specialty firms and explain how these changes are impacting M&A transaction activity and resulting valuations. Presented by George Bucur, MarshBerry Managing Director & Specialty Practice Co-Head |
